The Nowra Bridge is a road bridge that carries the Princes Highway over the Shoalhaven River in the Shoalhaven Council area on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. The bridge project delivered a new four-lane bridge over the Shoalhaven River, along with upgraded intersections and additional lanes on the Princes Highway. The new structure is an incrementally launched twin T-girder bridge, supported by four piles with a pile cap at flood level.
CaSE & Pike Design performed the construction engineering and temporary works design for the precast pile cap, which weighed approximately 70 tonnes. CaSE developed the installation methodology, incorporating a rubber ring to seal the water prior to grouting an underwater plug.
The project included several complex features: a high flooding risk area, a precast pile cap shell with in-situ infill pour, in-water installation of the pile cap shell, and a pontoon moored to the pile cap platform for marine access. Close coordination between the client, permanent works designer, crane/transporter supplier, and contractor was essential throughout the delivery.
