CaSE team attends the most prestigious event in the bridge industry

The CaSE team recently participated in the renowned International Bridge Conference (IBC) organized by the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania. With breathtaking views of the Potomac River, the conference was held in National Harbor, Maryland, US, and attracted approximately 1,000 attendees from June 12th to 14th.

Over three days, the event focuses on various aspects of bridge inspection, maintenance and rehabilitation, new build, pedestrian bridges, railway bridges, design, accelerated bridge construction, new technologies, BIM and emergency responses.

Jonathan Davies, Managing Director at CaSE, was invited to join a panel discussion on the international market, sharing insights on bridge engineering practices in Australia, with fellow participants from elsewhere in North America and Europe.

The conference featured captivating presentations, including a case study on the successful refurbishment of the historic Wheeling Suspension Bridge in West Virginia and plans for the new cross-bay link in Mobile, Alabama. Knight Architects showcased their innovative modular FRP pedestrian bridges designed for railway-level crossings, emphasizing safety and sustainability.

The event also addressed the management of the aging Chesapeake Bay bridges, a critical transportation route comprising beam spans, truss spans, and suspension bridges. Participants had the opportunity to visit the newly opened Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in downtown Washington, D.C. Douglass was an escaped slave who became a renowned campaigner for abolition, famously, a critic of the founding fathers and later friend of Abraham Lincoln.

The IBC served as an excellent platform for CaSE to connect with representatives from client organizations, contractors, fabricators, and consultants in the US bridge market. Exciting opportunities lie ahead, including partnerships with contractor joint ventures on long-span bridge design and construction projects, as well as involvement in bridge repair and strengthening — a growing area due to the pursuit of "Net Zero" emissions in which the CaSE team is specialized.

With a growing global presence, we are thrilled to have participated in IBC and showcase our capability in various sectors, including bridges which remains one of our core areas of expertise. As a global organization, CaSE actively strives to make substantial contributions to the advancement of infrastructure projects, leveraging our extensive pragmatic experience.
